Overview
Hidden deep within the forest lies a mystical sanctuary known as the “Garden of the Tengu.” In ancient times, when mountain climbing was considered a sacred act of devotion, this area was part of a pilgrimage route reserved only for those who had summited the peak three times or more. The land still radiates a quiet spiritual energy. The rugged landscape, shaped by volcanic rock and ancient trees, is home to hardy alpine plants that survive at the edge of the forest limit. Look closely and you’ll spot unique “flag-shaped trees,” whose branches grow only on the leeward side, sculpted by fierce winds over centuries. The Tengu Garden Trekking experience invites you to awaken your senses as you walk through this dynamic terrain—tuning into your instincts, intuition, and the primal rhythm of nature. Towering larch trees, shaped like giant bonsai, blend seamlessly into the scenery, opening up breathtaking views like nowhere else. You may also encounter wild herbs once revered as elixirs of longevity—hidden treasures whispered about in ancient folklore.

Tengu: The Legendary Watcher of Sacred Peaks
Tengu are mountain spirits in Japanese folklore, believed to protect nature and sacred places.
At Mt. Fuji, the most well-known is Taro Tengu, a guardian watching over travelers and the spiritual mountain.
Though unseen, his presence may be felt in the stillness of the forest.
